Alchemy (Exclusive Teaser Included!!!)

Book Description: We didn’t know how much we had to lose until we were infected with magic. Sam was in love, Juliette was the main caretaker for her siblings, and Ana and her dad planned the best parties in New York.
But we lost it all when we were shipped to Chebeague, an exclusive school for newly infected mages. Everyone knows about the mages, those who survive the infection and end up with magical abilities. We’ve seen the power of magic, the high-paying jobs, and the world fame. But we never saw the cost. We didn’t know we’d be forced to give up everything: sanity, family, even the right to talk on the phone.
We didn’t know mage was just another word for prisoner.

Teaser:
Stars twinkled through the cracks between branches above me. The hut smelled of dirt and our exertion. Jules lay on the hard ground with her back to me with just one thin blanket covering her. I could see her shivering next to me, poor girl. Poor crazy girl. Here I am, freakishly overheated, and she’s cuddling up to the branches as far away from me as she can get.
I reached into my pack I used as a pillow and pulled out my extra wool blanketCrazy girl , I thought as I pulled the blanket over her. Her eyes flashed open and she skittered a look in my direction, before she closed her eyes and pretended she was asleep. Who’d she think she was kidding? We were close enough that I could see her heartbeat pounding in her throat.
She always tried to seem so tough. So invincible. Even now, when she should be sleeping and finally relaxed, she’d put on a tough face. I scooted closer to her, and pulled the blanket over my own legs so we could share some of the warmth I was exuding. I didn’t want to move too close, because then Juliette would think I meant something by it, or maybe that would insult her by insinuating she needed help. Either way, I’m sure she’d hit me, and my head hurt so much I didn’t think I could stand it.
Slowly she stopped shivering, and I think she fell asleep.
I just lay there, inches away from Juliette, trying desperately to remember what Katie looked like. All I could think about was the shape of Juliette’s hips under the blanket, her long neck so close to mine I could smell her. Juliette’s soft jawline pointed straight to her hair pulled back into a ponytail that tickled my nose.
Think about Katie. She had icy blue eyes, not that golden green that haunts me when I close my eyes. Katie’s hair was a dark blonde, and not this chocolate brown so close I can touch it. Think of Katie. Her caramel skin, her gentle curves. She didn’t have bangs, but she liked her eyeliner. Why am I always such a sucker for a girl in eyeliner?
Katie. Katie. I tried to remember her, remember the way her skin felt underneath my fingertips, the way she always made me feel like I was a part of something special being there with her. My Katie girl.
Hey Katie, I need to move on.
Why did that idea hurt so much? I guess Katie wasn’t the kind of girl I could just move on from. I think memories of Katie will haunt me all my life. She was too kind to me, too loyal. How could I let go of the idea of us, of who we could be? For so long Katie set the guideposts for my life. Somehow, I’d find a way to be with her. Tomorrow I’d call her, and we’d find a way.
I could smell Juliette, feel her breath as it added humidity to the shelter. I couldn’t kid myself anymore. Juliette wasn’t just my friend. There’s something about her, about how free and comfortable I feel around her, that I’ve never felt before, not even with Katie. Being with Verne just made everything better. She made me better. I want to see Juliette be happy, to find a way to heal her of that pain that haunts her.
But...
I don’t know what I’m going to say. To either of them.
I lay there, awake, exhausted, and overloaded, listening to Juliette’s deep breathing next to me until we matched breaths. Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale. I breathed her in, until I realized what I was doing.
As long as I was thinking about my girls, I didn’t have to think about the Elite.
Who were coming for us.

About the Authors:
Sabrina West, Sheena Boekweg and Melanie Crouse never dreamed they would actually create a book worth publishing when they started writing together. Alchemy was merely supposed to be an exercise in flexibility. And it has been that, but it is so much more. Friendships that span the American continent have been forged, and unforgettable characters have been created. Writing this first book in the Prophecy Breakers was a fun-filled adventure, and we hope that reading it is just as fun for you. Visit us at theprosers.blogspot.com or check out Sheena Boekweg's amazing novel, Funny Tragic, Crazy Magic.

Excerpt-
Three vampires rested in the room occupied by the captain of the daimyo’s hunting party—all three of them awoke instantly when the little human oiran threw back the screen, shouting at them in furious Japanese. Without waiting for them to move, she strode boldly across the little space to come eye-to-eye with the captain himself as he struggled to come to his feet. At first they were so stunned by the mortal’s appearance none of the three knew what to do: Kazuo, the captain, finally registered her shrill accusations. "You would poison the daimyo’s honored guest?" she shouted at him. "You would drug her with octopus venom and then humiliate her?" Coming to his senses—they were slower in the daytime, vampires—Kazuo brought his hands down on her shoulders and lifted her off her feet. The sudden movement reminded her she had stepped into a tiger’s den—she stiffened in his grasp and sucked in a fearful breath. "Since when does the human come into my rooms uninvited?" he snarled. Fear shook her—she fully expected he would hurt her, and rightfully so—but she did not give off. "Rhiannon Donovan has drunk the venom of the blue-ring octopus," she said, her voice quavering but still strong. "Your huntsmen use it to paralyze and kill—one of them drugged the human she hunted, and she swallowed it with his blood!" "You dare charge my men with such a disgraceful act? And for a gaijin slut?" "What’s going on here?"Kazuo looked up; his two servants followed his glance. In the doorway stood Nagisa, tall and elegant, wrapped in the gauzy silk of her azure sleeper’s yukata—she, too, must have been roused by the sound of Aijyn’s screams. Her cold eyes regarded each of them carefully. "Aijyn," she said, the curiosity in her tone edged with danger. "What do you mean by disturbing the captain during his daytime rest?" Kazuo shot a dangerous and warning glare at the human oiran, but Aijyn ignored it, desperate with fear. "Nagisa-sama, the Councilwoman’s noble emissary was betrayed last night during the hunt," she said quickly; she’d never imagined one day it might be Nagisa, of all people, to save her from the fangs of an angry vampire. "Rhiannon drank the blood of a human poisoned with octopus venom, and now she lies in her rooms injured and sick. They took her hair, Nagisa-sama! They’ve shorn her like a...like a rag boy!"Nagisa’s poisonous eyes narrowed, her lips pressing into a thin line like the blade of a knife. "Kazuo," she said, the word like a stone dropping into an empty well. "Put Aijyn down."Kazuo stared, incredulous, at the graceful tayu. When he did not immediately comply, Nagisa strode into the room and grabbed him by the throat. "Why, Kazuo-san," she growled sweetly. "I had no idea you had already become so bored with immortality. Seventy-three years, if I recall, and already you wish for our master to release your soulless carcass into oblivion." Amazingly, Kazuo slowly backed down, quietly letting Aijyn go while his eyes remained furiously on Nagisa. His servants watched with silent awe as Nagisa continued, never breaking her hold on the captain’s neck. "Aijyn-chan, you are surely aware you will suffer greatly, should this accusation prove false," the tayu said. "I am quite sure of it, Nagisa-sama," Aijyn replied, bowing low. "I have heard the captain and his hunting party speak of the blow-darts they use to sting their human prey with the toxin. Kazuo-san has said the poison stings kin-born vampires as well; I am quite sure Rhiannon has swallowed it, and what reduced her to helplessness while her clothes were torn and her hair cut off." "Please return to the rooms of our guest. Attend to her carefully—be sure these men did not force themselves on her body, as well. I will deal with Kazuo, and send word to the daimyo of this dishonorable conduct." Aijyn felt cold all through her, and a dizzy giddiness swept through her mind. She had not even considered what she did—storming into one of the vampire’s nests!—and now she felt weak in the stomach. How had she even survived it? Nagisa’s words echoed in her head: make sure the men had not forced themselves on Rhiannon’s body. How could she not have considered it or checked for signs of it, to see if Rhiannon had also been raped by these monsters? "Aijyn-chan," Nagisa said again. Shaken from her daze, she nodded. Then she slipped quickly out of the room and found herself running, again, for Rhiannon.

About the Author – Sometime in early 2009, Brantwijn Serrah ran across an erotic novel in her local Barnes and Noble, and fell in love with the gorgeous geisha pictured on the cover. Sad to say, the book didn't live up to expectations. Brantwijn decided to write her own story instead. The idea for Lotus Petals, the tale of a geisha seduced into the world of vampires, was born. When she isn't visiting the worlds of immortals, demons, dragons and goblins, Brantwijn fills her time with artistic endeavors: sketching, painting, customizing My Little Ponies and sewing plushies for friends. She can't handle coffee unless there's enough cream and sugar to make it a milkshake, but try and sweeten her tea and she will never forgive you. She moonlights as a futon for four lazy cats, loves tabletop role-play games, and can spend hours watching Futurama, Claymore or Buffy the Vampire Slayer while she writes or draws. In addition to Lotus Petals, Brantwijn has had several stories published in anthologies by Breathless Press, including the 2013 Crimson Anthology and 2014 Ravaged Anthology. She's also had a short story published in the Cleiss Press Big Book of Orgasm, and hopes to have several more tales to tell as time goes on. She has author pages on GoodReads and Amazon and loves to see reader comments on her work. Her short stories occasionally pop up at Foreplay and Fangs, her blog at http://brantwijn.blogspot.com.

Holly Hearts Hollywood Cover Reveal

This cover looks super cute and the book description makes this book sound like a Hallmark movie in the making!

I think I'll definitely be reading this book so look forward to that review!

And now for the cover reveal:

Summary from Goodreads: Sixteen-year-old Holly Hart wants to be a star. She moves to Los Angeles from the small town of Cedar Junction, only to hear she’s too fat and ugly to be a famous singer. But when Shell Shocked Records looks past Holly’s plus-sized figure and less-than-graceful-personality to offer her a recording contract, Holly cannot believe her good fortune. On closer inspection, however, the record execs want Holly to do all the singing, and a thinner and more beautiful girl, Lacey, would lip-sync and get all the credit. Holly goes for it because after all, she wanted to sing. Contractually bound to secrecy, Holly is more than happy to sit backstage while Lacey shimmies in the limelight and basks in the fame. Before she knows it, Holly is friends with Serena, the pop-star daughter of a music-mogul, flirting with an intern, and developing a strange half-friendship with the seemingly bipolar Lacey. When Grayson Frost, the biggest country star in America, and coincidentally, a former school bully begins dating Lacey, Holly hopes that he won’t recognize or torment her. Through a series of embarrassing and weird events, Holly gets to know Grayson and learns that he is much nicer and more mature than he was four years ago. Holly is horrified when she starts falling for him. When Grayson admits he fell for Lacey's voice, what is a girl to do when she can’t legally tell the truth at the moment when the truth matters the most?

The Girl

Description Provided by Goodreads: After his death, Marcus found the love of his life...

Unfortunately it's not his sexy, telekinetic angel girlfriend --- it's Emmy Baxter... a human.

Between torture, demon attacks, and midterms, Marcus and Emily must fight their feelings for a devastating prophecy has predicted:

"Should Angel and Human unite, humanity will perish."

Read the book for free on: AmazonBarnes&Noble

Story line: This story line was interesting because it was told in two perspectives. The first part of the book is told in Emmy's perspective, the second part is told in Marcus's point of view, and at the end of book it switches again to Emmy's perspective. Marcus's point of view starts before Emmy's time reference and continues past Emmy's point in the story. I found this to be a bit repetitive because most of the book focused on the same time reference except in two perspectives. Another way to explain this is that most books start at point A and end at point C; however, this book started at point A and ended at point B. I did, however, enjoy the concept of the story about angels and trying to save the world.

Relationship: Emmy and Marcus's relationship was an instant connection between the two that Marcus tries to ignore because of the prophecy and that fact that he has a girlfriends, Ameana. Their relationship is not all love and happiness it's more of a destructive one, especially considering that by being together they could endanger the world and end up hurting Ameana.

Characters:
Emmy: At the beginning of the book Emmy seemed to be a very relatable and human-like character however as the book started to progress and her feelings for Marcus were factored into the equation, I started to not like her as much. She knew that Marcus was dating Ameana yet she continued to pursue him, even after he said not to her. I found that Emmy didn't really care about other's feelings or her self respect in a way. She continued to follow and pine after Marcus event though he explicitly made it clear that they couldn't be together. One thing I did like about her is that she's so determined, sometimes it was a bad thing yet at other times it was a good thing.

Marcus: I enjoyed reading about Marcus because he's the responsible and reasonable one in this book. He's the leader of the group and he's caring and sweet. It was interesting being in his head, especially when Emmy is in danger.

Miku/Rio/Jay/Reese/Ameana: I enjoyed the "supporting" characters in this book very much. Miku is a very girly and caring character. Rio is Miku's twin and he is super sweet! Reese is just everything awesome and I absolutely LOVED his character! Jay is Reese's best friend and he is just as awesome and funny! Ameana is Marcus's girlfriend. I enjoyed reading about her character because she kept things real for everyone.

Overall: This book was a decent read with an interesting story line. The characters are entertaining to read about and the world that Lola StVil has created will keep you entertained. There is definitely a plot twist at the end that no one will see coming and a cliff hanger that will want you reaching for the next book. And having read the second book I can say that the plot becomes even more interesting and complicated.

Rating: I would give this book a 6.5

Excerpt:
He flinched at the sound of my voice, snapping his laptop shut. Looking over his shoulder, he smiled. “You look beautiful in the morning, Eva. Your blonde hair messy and falling around your face, your eyes— not quite blue, but not quite green— sparkling in the morning sun… or the simulation of the sun,” he said with a crooked grin.
“Stop joking around. What were you just looking at?” I’d seen the picture on his laptop before
he’d shut it. People running around their POD, a look of terror in their eyes. I reached out and opened the lid of his computer. My arm brushed against his, sending goosebumps racing across my skin. I had to concentrate to remember what I was asking about. The screen was nothing but static. “They cut off another one? Who?” I let go of his computer and started to pull my hand away. He grabbed it, folding it into his own, threading our fingers together. He grazed his lips
over my knuckles.
Oh. Wow. Do that again.
My insides swirled out of place and did things I’d only read about in my mother’s racy romance novels.
“Yes. Someone I know from class. You don’t know him. And who says I’m joking?”
“What?” He was difficult to understand on a good day, but that early in the morning, seeing him in nothing more than blue pajama bottoms, his lips moving against my fingers as he talked, it was nearly impossible.
“You told me to stop joking around. I wasn’t joking.”
My heart was beating so hard and fast in my chest, I was sure he could hear it. I pinched the bridge of my nose between my fingers. My fingernails bit into my flesh.
Say something, Eva! Do Something— anything. Just… something. “So…” I started, only to be interrupted by my yawn. Except yawn, idiot! Kiss him… wait… what?
“What’s your theory on the PODs being cut off? Do you think there’s that many people testing positive for the—”
He stood, turned toward me, cupped his hand around the back of my neck and pulled my lips to his. That shut me up. Shock slammed into me, quickly giving way to pleasure, and pleasure to urgency.
I wrapped my arms around his neck, threading my fingers through his silky hair. David’s hand moved from the back of my neck to cup my cheek, his thumb caressing my skin. The other one moved to the small of my back, pulling me tighter against him. He kissed me long, deep. It was sinfully erotic feeling his bare skin under my fingers.
When he tore his lips away, he looked in my eyes. My first instinct was to turn away, but both his hands cupped my cheeks. He bent his head and grazed his lips over mine before looking at me again.
“I’ve wanted to do that since the first day I saw you. And each day I’ve known you it’s been harder and harder not to.”
“Well, what took you so long?”

Praise for the Amazon Bestselling PODs:
"5 Stars! I loved this book. I have been kind of bogged down with dystopias lately, but this was amazing. It was so cool to see life before the 'event', to see Eva wrestle with her choices and then, to watch her change as she lived inside the PODs...Yes, there are zombies. Yes, there's a little romance. But I think, at its heart, PODs is a coming of age story about Eva and how she grows from a girl into a strong, decisive woman during this period of absolute destruction. And Pickett writes it beautifully." ~ Sherry Ficklin, author of "Extracted"

About the Author:
I'm a wife, mother, author, reader, although not always in that order.  I write young adult urban fantasies, science/fiction and paranormal romances and have recently started dabbling in young adult contemporary romance. Reading was one of my earliest passions, writing soon followed. I began writing seriously during college where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in accounting. Why I chose a career that frowns on creativity remains a mystery. I’m addicted to Reese’s peanut butter cups and eat way too many while I write, have an abnormal obsession with hoodies and can’t write without one, and I hate to cook, but love to watch cooking shows on television. An unabashed romantic, I love a swoon-worthy ending that will give me butterflies for days. I wrote my debut young adult novel, PODs, in 2011. PODs, a science/fiction, post-apocalyptic romance, will be released June 4, 2013 through the amazing Spencer Hill Press. My second young adult title, Milayna, a paranormal romance, will release through Spencer Hill Press beginning in March 2014. Milayna is a standalone, with series potential. It’s meant to be a trilogy. The Infected, a PODs novel, will release November 2014. It is the second, and last, book in the PODs series. I was born and raised in Flint, Michigan.  I now reside in a small community outside Houston, Texas with my incredibly supportive, not to mention gorgeous, husband, three amazing school-aged children, a 125-pound lap dog, and a snooty cat. Keep up-to-date with my current, future projects, appearances, and fun giveaways at www.michelle-pickett.com. I always love to hear from readers, bloggers and other authors!

The loved the story line of this book! It progressed Rayne and Sadie's relationship now that Sadie confronts him about it because she no loner wishes to pretend simply being in a relationship. It was awesome to read about how they work out their problems and form a beautiful relationship. Rayne was a sweetheart in this book as in the last but I loved him even more in this book than the last. We see a more protective side of him and the lengths he'll go to protect those who cares about *cough* Sadie *cough*. We also see Sadie mature a little bit more and start to accept her heritage more as well. As well as maturing we see her deal with her father issues, which pushes her way out of her comfort zone. In this book we see that Ash takes more of a center stage. I loved seeing him struggle with between being good and bad and the choices he wants to make. Overall, this series just keeps getting better book after book and there are twists and surprises that will keep you wanting to read and never out the book down! I give this book a 9!

Book Description Provided by Goodreads: Armed with kick-ass shoes, can CJ stop a maniacal coven leader, save the town, and still get Mr. Melt In Your Mouth Gorgeous while surviving the darkness coming for her? The smoke from the fire burned her eyes, its heat caressed her skin and the taste of fear choked her. She was going to burn just as her ancestor did all those centuries ago in New Salem Village. How could she have been so wrong about everything? Cassie Jayne Bishop grew up the only non-believer in town of Coven. When a stranger comes to the sleepy town of New Salem, everything she thought was true unraveled around her. Ethan made her question everything, even her sister’s death. Clues start to pile up and Cassie is determined to find out if the Coven was the real reason her sister died. What she uncovers terrifies her to the very depths of her soul....

Story Line: I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised with the story line of this book. I don't read many books about witches although I love and am open to all sorts of paranormal book themes. Saying that I loved the concept of the Salem witches and I even loved it more due to the fact the most powerful among them is a non-believer! As for the story line itself I loved how it started out as almost a treasure hunt to uncover the mystery behind her sister's death but then turned into a race for survival.

Relationship: The relationship between CJ and Ethan (Matthew?) was most definitely instant and hilarious. Ethan and CJ seem to connect almost instantly and they make such an awesome yet secretive couple. I loved them together especially since they both love to rile the other up! Definitely entertaining to read about.

Characters:
CJ (Cassie Jayne Bishop): I enjoyed reading about CJ's character because she's so strong willed and she's a fighter. When she has no one left to rely on she finds her own way out of sticky situations and won't let anyone boss her around (especially a certain M&M hehehe!) Oh and she has a killer sense of shoes style!

Ethan: Ethan seems to show up almost out of nowhere with more secrets than a boy that good looking should have! LOL! I completely loved him especially at the end, when the complexity of his character is revealed.

Overall: This book was a good read and not only was it about uncovering secrets but it was also about revenge, answers, trust, and sacrifice. This book will give you many little heart attacks at the end and fangirl moments through out the book but the biggest will be in the absolute last pages of the book!

Rating: I would give this book an 8!

About the Author:
So who am I? Well, I'm the crazy girl with an imagination that never shuts up. I LOVE scary movies. My friends laugh at me when I scare myself watching them and tell me to stop watching them, but who doesn't love to get scared? I grew up in a small town nestled in the southern mountains of West Virginia where I spent days roaming around in the woods, climbing trees, and causing general mayhem. Nights I would stay up reading Nancy Drew by flashlight under the covers until my parents yelled at me to go to sleep. I love books, I love writing books, and I love entertaining people with my silly stories.
