Snowbound with the CEO Review

Description Provided by Goodreads: Adrian Blackstone built a million-dollar business with hard work and determination—and by remaining professional at all times. Denying his longtime attraction to his beautiful executive assistant hasn't been easy but it's necessary. She's indispensable, and he can't stand the thought of losing her if things didn't work out.

For more than a year, Rachel Carter has been quietly dreaming of all the ways she'll never seduce her sexy, buttoned-up boss. She's worked too hard to get where she is to cross that line, no matter how badly she'd like to act on her fantasies. But then a wicked snowstorm leaves them stranded in a romantic winter wonderland…

What begins as a single kiss and a few bad Santa jokes turns into a weekend full of breathless passion and hopes for something more. But with Monday comes a return to their complicated reality—and Adrian must prove that promises made are promises kept, especially at Christmastime.

If your looking for a book that will help you hold on to the last bit of Christmas spirit then this is the one. This book is a great book to read during this holiday season and it reminds me of the Christmas movies they pass on the Hallmark or Lifetime channels. This books is an easy and romantic book to read. The story line was somewhat predictable but it was sweet none the less. I enjoyed reading about Adrian and Rachel's characters because of their dilemmas; however I believe that the story could have been longer so that there could have been more character development and story development as well. I did enjoy the romance between the characters and found it to be sweet, especially after all their thinking gets out of the way and they follow their hearts. Overall, it's just a fun and easy to that you can read in one sitting while reading a hot beverage. I would give this book a 6.

For this book review I decided to go a different path. Instead of writing down my thoughts on the book after I read it, I decided to write down my thoughts on the book while reading it. So I present to you in all my fangirlingness my review of Runes:

Torin automatically reminded me of Daemon from Obsidian - he's always answering doors without his shirt on and of course we're not complaining. When I got to the runes part the Immortal Instruments series automatically popped into my head and yeah there's also the part about a hot standoffish character named Torin who just so happens to remind me of Jace. A British accent?!? Really? Could Torin get any more amazingly perfect? It's kind of frustrating because I see a love triangle maybe forming and I don't want to take sides but it's kind of hard not to! OMG Meelina is such a newence that I want to slap her silly! I have to admit that while I'm not a fan of a love triangle, unless it's a Wendy Higgins love triangle, I do like the competition between Eirik and Torin. Oh and did I mention all the cool names and different ways the names are spelled in this book? Super cool! OMG!!! Is this what I think it is? Is there more than a triangle going on? Could person C like person B? And if that's true what will happen with person A and person D? We'll have to see. HEHEHE!! How could anyone resist Torin when he says things like that? If he told me those things I'd probably melt like a snowman on a hot summer day! Holy cow!!! Now I'm definitely sure I would melt if Torn said stuff like that to me!! He just earned some major brownie points in chapter 9, The Unexpected. He has totally sent me into fangirling mode!!! I love all the mystery and unknown factors in this book. What is Torin? Could Raine's father somehow be involved? And how is it that Torin and Eirik really know each other? Could it possibly be turning into a Wendy Higgins love triangle? I sure hope so! Holy smokes if I hadn't just read it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed that Torin could get any hotter! Gah! I would have gone crazy if I were Raine! Just saying, look forward to a green dress. Okay major fangirling now and all in one chapter!!! This book has it all and it's fast becoming one of my favorites!! Holy moly what is wrong with this girl? She is some other type of psycho! Déjà vu to Existence by Abby Glines and one of my favorite series, Need by Carrie Jones!!! This has just made me love the book even more and it reminded me of Astley!!! Omg my heart it breaking right now, this cannot be happening! Why can't people ever listen to others? If they tell you your in danger why would you just stand there? No! You move out of the way, that's what you do. Lol! Oh my wow! What an ending! I never expected this and I absolutely can't wait for the next book!! I need to read more about Raine's life and how it's going to turn out!!! I just added this book to my read shelf on Goodreads and I saw that there was a different edition with a different cover printed. When I clicked on it I automatically recognized the cover. I have had this book on my wish list on Amazon for a while now. I'm soooo glad that I got the chance to read this book because I absolutely loved it!!!

Overall: I would give this book a 10!! It's a fun and easy read. Plus it has action, danger, mystery, romance, and fangirl moments (as seen by my reaction). I definitely recommend this book, especially if you read or seen the movie, City of Bones from the Immortal Instruments series!!

Excerpt:
Prologue: The fluttering of the birds’ wings against the windshield produced a steady noise not unlike the whirring of a fan. He looked over at the pained face of his wife. She was at the peak of labor, her contractions only two minutes apart. Her water had broken several hours ago, and despite his demands to leave immediately for the hospital, Helena had insisted on waiting it out, determined to relish the birth of their first child in the comfort of their own home. Joshua had only conceded knowing that in Ridgewood there wasn’t likely to be much traffic. Their worst delay might be having to wave to a familiar pedestrian. But this roadblock could never have been foreseen. They were everywhere — the feathers, the flapping wings. When the first one had landed, a snowy white creature with clouded jade eyes, he had thought nothing of it. Swerving gently, Joshua was surprised that the bird held its ground, welcoming its identical twin, who swooped down and landed firmly on the hood of the car. And then an avalanche. Identical white birds streaming down in droves, their verdigris eyes boring curiously beyond the windshield. She cried out in pain. “Please,” she pleaded with her husband — her voice was barely above a whisper. “Please get me some help.” Joshua looked over at his wife. Her milky complexion, now blue as a flame, had taken on an unnatural translucence, revealing the frenetic pumping of blood through her veins. But trapped inside the chrysalis of feathers and beak, there was no way to maneuver the car forward. Or in any direction, for that matter. “I’m so sorry, baby, I can’t see a thing…” He tried prompting the flock to leave with a few angry bursts of the horn. But the sound only propelled the beating of their wings. And with each new unwelcome visitor, a sterile Labor and Delivery room became a fantasy reserved for another universe. Dialing 911, Joshua tried maintaining his composure. He could sense the operator’s skepticism until Helena let out a fortuitous moan, lending an undeniable truth to his tale. He tried pinpointing their location. Where were they anyway? While he attempted to gain his bearings, Helena became entranced by the thumping of the giant wings. The percussion was a sponge, soaking up her anxiety at being trapped. The vibration of the wings made its way down her spine, relieving the immense pressure in her belly. With a burst of sudden clarity Helena knew that this was going to be the birthplace of her child. Right here, on Thornton Road. There would be no hospital and no Dr. Schein. Joshua would have to deliver this baby and she felt it coming. Fast. The birds continued to flock to the car, forming a layer three deep. Nestling their heads into one another, they hastened the rhythm of their wings, their movements in perfect unison. She stared them down and, as they returned her gaze, the balloon that was her swollen body was untied, her pain released in a slow and steady stream, replaced by an utter sense of calm. There were only the birds now. Never mind the fruitless attempts of her husband to open the car door against the impenetrable suction. No recognition of his own panic, his own understanding that if she didn’t make it through this, there would be no tomorrow for either one of them. And still, the birds remained. The creatures lifted their heads up, one by one, revealing their aged green eyes. Helena basked in the comfort of the winged voyeurs, grateful for the way they had reversed the current of her pain. “It’s coming,” she whispered to Joshua. Joshua surrendered any vestiges of calm to which he had been clinging, his face a mosaic of horror and shock. “What? You mean now?” And before Helena could even answer, the child emerged. Joshua caught the tiny creature in the bath towel they had grabbed as an afterthought just before leaving the house. “Oh my god, Helena, it’s a girl!” His voice trembled, unable to find solid ground. “She seems perfect! Oh my god—“ Helena looked down at the child. She was perfect. A small silken tuft of brown hair sat like a crown atop her delicate skull. Her fingers were long and graceful, tiny papery nails topping each one. Her lips were full, forming a perfect ruby heart. Joshua started wiping the child clean, offering his wife words of endearment and praying that the paramedics would arrive soon. But his words floated away like particles of dust. There was no room for them in the air that had become filled with the cries of the newborn. The thumping of the birds’ wings began to fade, offering center stage to the cries of the baby. Gradually, one by one, they flew away forming a perfect arrow as they soared into the dusky sky. When the last one was gone, the baby’s cries became a tornado sucking away all other sounds and sights. The storm of the infant’s tears held within it a somnolent melody, every sob the next movement in the tearful symphony. Joshua and Helena struggled to keep their eyes open despite the deep sleep that was suddenly beckoning them. The sounds of the child were a quicksand. And they were being pulled under. Just as they were about to be submerged completely, the arrival of the paramedics jolted Helena, awakening her maternal instincts. She drew her new daughter to her breast, amazed at her ability to nourish the child from her own body. The baby fell silent as she began to suckle, breaking the dreamy spell that had been wielded by her tears. Sleepily, Helena ran a gentle fingertip over the velvety cheeks of her new daughter. They would call her Portia, just like they had talked about. “I will never grow tired of hearing your voice, little Portia,” whispered the proud mother to her new daughter. She could never have known then that for the next sixteen years the child would not make another sound.

Excerpt:

The dream of Alexander had me rattled, and now that I had a chance to introduce myself, my apprehension seemed to be getting the better of me. The idea of him standing over me, watching me sleep as I dreamed of him, made me tremble.
I wanted to believe that seeing him in my room was still part of the dream, but the truth was, I didn’t know. That was why I needed Hope, why I couldn’t talk to him just yet. I needed to know if my dream had anything to do with what I’d asked my spirit guide.
After another ten minutes of waiting, Hope still hadn’t arrived, and Alexander began to clean up his mess. My heart thudded. I feared this might be the last time I would see him, and that fear urged me forward. I played with my hair as I approached him, feeling so nervous that I watched my feet so I wouldn’t trip over myself. When I reached Alexander, my eyes slowly
ran up his back, noticing every curve and ripple.
I cleared my throat, trying to get his attention. Alexander turned, startled, and saw me only a few feet away. He beamed, and began to close the gap between us. I shivered involuntarily. The air had a strange feeling, rattling and vibrating me as if I stood underneath a helicopter.
Alexander stopped his approach when the thudding and rattling seemed to get worse. The feeling was odd, but also familiar, comfortable. I opened my mouth to speak, but nothing came forth but a sigh. Alexander was just about to say something when his workers walked in behind
One of the larger men bumped Alexander’s back in a playful manner, and knocked him forward. Ever so slightly, Alexander brushed my arm. The sensation was akin to my skin being sliced open by electrified razors. I withdrew, my squinting eyes revealing my terror.
“I’m sorry! Are you okay?” Alexander looked upset and reached for my arm, but I pulled away.
“Not sure,” I mumbled as I backed up. “Are you?”
“Yes, of course, but…” Alexander shook his head. “I didn’t mean to. I was trying not to touch you.”
“Why?” I asked without thinking. The men behind Alexander seemed just as confused by his behavior as I was.
“Sorry, but I have to go.” Alexander took one of the men’s arms, dragging him along. The man laughed, but struggled to keep up.
“Wait! What do you mean you were trying not to touch me?” I shouted anxiously as he strode away, but Alexander never turned around.

About the Author
I've always been a writer. I grew up duct taping my novels together, started writing complete manuscripts in high school and studied creative writing at Johns Hopkins University. Upon graduating, I decided it was finally time to actually give my dream career a chance. So, of course, I started writing a young adult paranormal romance series -- and no, I'm not jumping on the bandwagon. I've been a true paranormal supporter for my entire life! I blame my obsession almost completely on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, my all-time favorite television show. And, before you ask: Yes, I own every season... even the post WB ones! I especially challenge anyone to watch the first three seasons and not fall in love with Angel, securing a lifelong love of vampires! Other culprits of my paranormal obsession are some of my favorite authors: JK Rowling, Raymond Feist, Meg Cabot, Richelle Mead, Lynne Ewing and Tamora Pierce.
