The last thing Natara “Natti” Stone wants to do is to start anew at Setemple High School. She wished she had never left London. Yet the brutal murder of her maternal grandmother has made her life very complicated. The only clue related to her murder is an ancient, encrypted necklace Natti discovered after her grandmother’s death. And if trying to adjust to American life is not enough, Natti is being stalked by a mysterious, charming high school senior, Seth O’Keefe, who is annoyingly persistent in his attempts at seduction.
Seth O’Keefe is secretly a member of the Sons of Set, an order that worships the Egyptian god of chaos. Seth’s blessing from Set, his “charm,” never failed, except with one person: Natti Stone. Her ability to elude him infatuates and infuriates him, and he becomes obsessed with the chase. But the closer he gets to her, the more his emotions take a dangerous turn, and he risks breaking one of the most valued covenants of his order. The punishment for which is a fate worse than death. The adventure this unlikely couple becomes engulfed in could cost them their lives and their souls.
Get to know one of Natara's best friends in the character profile of Kevin:
Hair Color: Dark Brown
Eye Color: Dark Brown
Setemple High Social Standing: Outcast
Closest Friends: Wanda Winfall, Natara Stone
Likes: Giving Jen a hard time. There’s nothing more fun than pushing Jen’s buttons. She thinks she’s so high and mighty, it’s good to keep her grounded every once and a while. Pharaoh’s Festival. It’s the best annual celebration in Setemple! Merchants and visitors from all over the west coast come to the festival honoring Setemple High’s mascot, which is pretty flippin’ awesome. Kevin especially loves the games at the Sphinx’s Challenge and the Haunted Pyramid, where someone could get the snot scared out of them. How could you pass that up? Food. Kevin’s a growing boy and can’t deny his stomach. His favorite thing to eat? Corn dogs! He loves corn dogs. Lots and lots of corn dogs.
Dislikes: Seth and his buddies. Kevin never liked the popular threesome, especially Q. He’s a smart-alek who believes he’s a gift from God. And he doesn’t like how Natti, his new friend, might be swept into Seth’s
web. It’s bad enough Wanda gawks at the guy, he doesn’t want to lose Natti to him entirely. Shopping with the girls. Okay, so there’s one major disadvantage when all your closest friends are girls. Particularly when one of those girls is Jen. Let her loose in Cleopatra’s Closet at the Pharaoh’s Festival, and suddenly, Kevin finds himself watching as she, Wanda, and Natti try on dress after dress after dress. Ugh!
